Choosing tires for the winter: useful life hacks

According to the rules of the road, it is necessary to change the shoes of the car when the air temperature drops to +8°C. This is one of the main safety criteria, and therefore the choice of tires should be approached responsibly. Will 18.4-26 tires or do I need a different size? Are winter spikes really necessary?

Here are simple tips to help a female driver cope with the choice of rubber for a car:

  1. Protector type. According to psychologists, women drive more carefully and calmly. For this style of riding, a directional tread pattern is suitable: it helps to enter corners more easily. Fans of fast driving should give preference to an asymmetric pattern. If the car is used mainly for city driving, a non-directional tread will do. This is due to the fact that city roads are usually cleared of snow and ice.
  2. Tire type. Tires can be European, Scandinavian and studded. The first type is the ideal choice for a warm winter. If the climate of the region is such that the roads will certainly be snowy in winter, it is better to give preference to Scandinavian tires - they are made of soft rubber. For a harsh climate and safe driving on ice, you should choose studded tires that reduce the length of the braking distance.
  3. Size. This is an individual criterion - it is different for each car. The only thing to remember is that if the machine's operating instructions indicate that the tire profile size is 16.9-24 , the recommendations must be strictly followed. Incorrect sizing is guaranteed to result in poor handling.

Purchasing new or used tires is a matter of financial possibilities. The best option is, of course, new winter tires. If the budget allows you to choose only used tires, it is important to pay attention to the thickness of the grooves - the larger it is, the longer the tires will last.
