Salad with "WOW!!!" effect. Surprise your guests with Waldorf.

Salad with

It is clear that the Olivier salad on our holiday tables is indestructible ... This is not bad. But, you must admit, for 20 years now it has been available on any day of the year (not only on holidays), and again and again we want to please family and friends with something unrealistically delicious, with a “WOW!” effect that causes applause and admiration hostess.

I have been looking for an alternative to Olivier for a long time, and finally settled on Waldorf. I beat myself on the hands so as not to cook it often, so that the effect of novelty is preserved.

Everyone who enters our house is delighted with the treat. And what do you want? The recipe was coined in the late 19th century by Oscar Chirsky, head waiter at the main restaurant of New York's famed Waldorf Astoria Hotel. In the American version of Wikipedia, there was a reference to the fact that all world movie stars, politicians, show business and just business must have tried this salad, that he starred in 20 Oscar-winning films (it was he who was often served in "expensive" romantic scenes and always in scenes filmed in Astoria itself), he was an obligatory guest at all royal weddings in Europe and the world (traditionally, for foreign guests, the menu includes 3-4 international dishes that could please all guests without exception).

And now it will be on your table too!

Ingredients:

200 g boiled chicken or turkey (you can also use grilled chicken)

2 medium apples (sweet and juicy are best)

4 medium stalk celery

1/2 cup seedless grapes

1/2 cup shelled walnuts

1/4-1/3 cup mayonnaise, best homemade, lean, I reported his recipe

1/4-1/3 cup natural yogurt, Greek or regular

(The classic recipe uses only mayonnaise. Healthy lifestyle advocates call for yogurt or sour cream. I compromised)

salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

small handful of salad greens for serving (optional)

Well, preparing a salad is extremely simple. All components are cut into small cubes, as in our Olivier. Apples are pre-peeled. Cut grapes in half. We crush the nuts into pieces, close in size to cubes.

In a separate bowl, beat mayonnaise and yogurt (sour cream), adding a pinch of sugar to the mixture.

Mix all the ingredients in a spacious salad bowl. Add salt and black pepper (no other herbs or spices are needed).

Salad is served in small salad bowls, or even in pancakes lined with lettuce leaves.

In our country, I met several times Waldorf served in bowls. But this is for an amateur))
