How to trim a slit in a skirt or dress

Good afternoon my friends! Today, we will talk about how to strengthen the cut on a skirt or dress. At first glance, this topic is insignificant. But in fact, if you do not strengthen the cut on the skirt or dress, you can simply ruin the look of the thing. Very often, while wearing a dress or skirt with slits, a nuisance happens. From a large tension, a slit in a skirt or dress is torn. At best, the threads on the seam are torn or unraveled. It's okay, you can once again make a line on the seam.

But it also happens that the bartack on the cut is made firmly, the threads are also strong. And then already, from constant tension, the fabric itself is torn or even pulled out in a piece! In this case, it will already be necessary to try to correct this defect. And not in all cases, it will turn out to do it qualitatively.

Imagine such a picture - you are walking all so beautiful, the skirt fits the figure, from under the cut the legs are temptingly visible. Men look at such beauty, their eyes rise naturally higher ... And then BAM! Such a disgrace. Ripped seam...

Look at the photo below. It remarkably shows how much tissue tension at the incision site occurs while walking. By the way! When we sit, if the skirt is narrow, tight-fitting, the tension of the fabric occurs no less than during walking. On the contrary, it increases several times.

A place on a skirt with a slit that needs to be strengthened. But this probable problem can be foreseen. And in advance to protect yourself from trouble.

I asked my mother for advice on this topic. And my mother, Anna Matveevna Sidorenko, is a professional tailor. And I will say without false modesty that tailors of such high professionalism as my mother still need to be looked for. Her advice is always valuable.

In general, my mother told me, I wrote it down , made it and I'm telling you.

HOW TO PROCESS A SPLIT ON A SKIRT OR DRESS

Let's say we have a slit on a skirt.

To prevent a seam break, you need to make an amplifier at the end of the line. The amplifier is made of thin durable fabric, in tone with the main product. Mom makes from lining fabric. But it is possible from the main fabric.

We cut a strip of fabric along the shared thread, 3 cm wide.

A strip of fabric for an amplifier Fold in four layers, cut inward (like a hanger) and stitch along the hem by 0.1-0.2 mm.

Amplifier strip. The seam of the cut in the product should be ironed.

The seam of the slit on the skirt. We fold the fabric face to face, and the sewing seam, on the contrary, open it, as in the photo below. Then, we apply the reinforcement exactly in the place where the sewing seam ends. We apply the amplifier with the line down, for a better fortress. You can fix it with needles so that it does not move out. Now you need to make bindings. We make bartacks from the inside, exactly along the line. Of course, it is desirable to select the threads to match the product. I specifically used threads of a contrasting color, so that it could be seen better.

First we make a fastener on one side.

We sew the amplifier. In the photo below, you can see how the backtack looks on the other side of the stitching seam.

We sew the amplifier. Then, we repeat, everything is the same, with a different sewing seam (on the other side).

We sew the amplifier. Now we make bartacks along the edges of the seams. First we make a bartack along one edge of the seam. Then on the other side. We unfold the fabric in the same way as in the previous case.

We sew the amplifier. Now we make bartacks along the bottom of the amplifier, as in the photo below.

First on one seam allowance. Then on another allowance.

We sew the amplifier. The photo below shows what the bartacks look like on the other side.

View from the back. Now, the surplus of the amplifier needs to be cut along the length.

We cut off the extra tails of the amplifier. All bartacks are done on seam allowances, without touching the right side. In finished form, fasteners are not visible on the product.

In the finished form, it is not visible that the cut was reinforced from the inside. So, you can strengthen the cut on a skirt or dress. It will take little time, but it will protect you from future troubles.

And further! If you bought a finished item and there is a cut on it, then it is better to put the amplifier right away. Most likely, seam allowances on the cut, I will be sewn along the edge. Carefully cut out part of the line. And put the amplifier on the cut, in exactly the same way as described above.

Then, stitch again, in the place where you ripped it. Threads try to choose the same color as the threads of the native line.

If you do not have the opportunity to find threads of the same color, then simply undo your native stitching completely. Install an amplifier. And do the stitching again, with the threads that you have (suitable for the color of the fabric).
