About 80% of people suffer from back pain throughout their lives. According to experts, this is not always a symptom of a serious illness or injury. Often the fault is the risk factors that a person faces every day. It is about them that we will tell in this article.
From childhood, we are used to hearing: "Keep your back straight." However, in the bustle of days, we constantly violate this “rule”, and remember only when we feel pain.
We have collected everyday situations - the very risk factors that prevent our back from staying healthy and can cause pain.
1. Professional factor
Back pain is a concern not only for office workers and representatives of areas where hard physical labor and heavy lifting are implied. Beauticians, manicurists, architects, drivers, engineers, seamstresses - this is an incomplete list of professions whose representatives put their backs under serious stress every day.
It is important to take a short break from work at least once an hour. If possible, do a short warm-up while standing, which will relieve tension from the muscles of the back, or at least get up from the workplace for a while.
2. Workspace at home
It would seem that at home there will be no threat to the back. We are relaxed and don't have to worry about posture. But daily household chores in the form of washing dishes, preparing dinner or ironing clothes are also merciless to our back.
It is important that the environment of the house is as customized as possible for you. The height of the sink, table, ironing board should correspond to your height, the spine during homework should remain straight, and the back muscles should be relaxed.
3. Uncomfortable shoes
Beauty requires sometimes unjustified sacrifices from our back. Conquered by beautiful high-heeled shoes in the store, women sometimes forget about the direct connection between shoes and posture. High heels are not recommended to be worn for more than 2 hours a day.
Absolutely flat sole gives the load on the spine no less than heels. Weight is not properly distributed, as a result, unnecessary load is transferred to the spinal muscles. Such shoes are not suitable for the role of everyday.
For every day, choose shoes with low heels. Sandals and other summer shoes - with straps that tightly hold the toe and heel.
4. Big bags
The fashion for huge bags poses a serious threat to the health of our backs. There is a great temptation to carry everything with us, no matter if it is useful to us or will remain only a heavy burden in the literal sense.
Do an honest audit of your bag. Leave only what you really use during the day.
The ideal choice for every day would be a backpack. If you wear it correctly - on two shoulders, and not on one. Adjust the straps so that it fits snugly against the shoulder blades, and does not hang around the lower back.
5. Tight clothing
Another sacrifice that fashion requires of us is beautiful, but so uncomfortable clothes. A pencil skirt, a dress narrowed down to the bottom, skinny jeans, which are also worn by men, noticeably restrict freedom of movement and disrupt blood circulation . Stiff back muscles during the day can cause pain.
For women, the selection of underwear is also important. Correction underwear strongly compresses the muscles, disrupting blood circulation in them. When choosing a daily bra, you should consider comfort, not just beauty. Give preference to wide bodice straps.
6. Stress and depression
Studies have shown that depressed mental states can cause excessive tension in the back muscles in everyday life.
When we are upset, we have no time for posture - the shoulders drop, the back rounds. Subsequently, pain in the back or lower back cannot be avoided. Physical activity helps to cope with stress. It is important to choose an activity to your liking: dancing, swimming or running - what you will do with pleasure.
In case of depression, it is recommended to contact specialists to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
7. Wrong position in a dream
An uncomfortable sleeping position, coupled with the wrong mattress, not only prevents us from sleeping, but can also provoke back pain. The stiffness of the mattress in this situation plays a big role. It should not be too soft, choose moderately hard.
The line of the spine during sleep should remain straight. If you sleep on your side, your head should neither sink nor be raised high on a lush pillow. Sleeping on your back will help secure a pillow under your knees, which will take the load off your lower back.
8. Incorrect lifting of weights
For back health, lifting heavy objects is, of course, contraindicated. But situations in our everyday life do not always allow us to avoid it.
In order not to injure your back, you must follow simple rules when lifting weighty things. The knees must be bent, and the back straight in line with the head.
