Today, the cosmetology and plastic surgery market offers a wide range of services. But are they really so useful and, most importantly, safe?
Dermatologist-cosmetologist at RUDN University Ksenia Vedischeva says what procedures she would never do personally and why.
1. Liposuction
According to Xenia, this procedure has many side effects. Liposuction is a surgical operation performed under general anesthesia. This is a serious intervention in the body that injures skin tissue, which often looks unaesthetic and resembles the stage of cellulite after surgery. The recovery period is very long.
In addition, when you remove fat from one part of the body, you provoke its accumulation in another. It can be completely unexpected places, like on the wrists, neck, forearms, ankles.
2. Eyebrow tattoo
Eyebrow fashion is in a state of flux. From fine hair lines to dense forests. Tattoos are very difficult to remove from the skin. Over time, the pigment may fade, turning blue or red. No cosmetologist will give you a guarantee that in 2-3 years your eyebrows will not acquire a greenish tint.
If you still want to get a tattoo, then go for eyebrow microblading. This procedure allows the eyebrows to look more natural, and eventually the dye washes off on its own.
3. Eyelid tattoo
The disadvantages of this procedure are the same as with eyebrow tattooing. In addition, it will look very unnatural, and you can forget about the delicate look without makeup.
Ksenia also says that over time, our eyelids go down, and your tattooed arrow will crawl down your eyelid, this will betray the look of fatigue and a fading look. It is almost impossible to erase such an arrow.
4. Butt lift (thread lift)
A buttock lift has many more disadvantages than advantages. Firstly, it is very painful because the buttocks have a lot of nerve endings. Secondly, it is quite expensive and lasts about 2-3 hours. And let's not forget the number of activities the patient will have to forget about, including dance, massage, hot tub and sauna. In addition, the effect of the procedure lasts a maximum of one year!
5. Vacuum face cleaning
Ksenia, as a professional cosmetologist, believes that only a comprehensive facial cleansing can benefit the patient. Modern technology, coupled with the hands of a doctor, can work wonders. But ultrasound or vacuum is not able to completely cleanse the face and prevent the appearance of new inflammation.
6. Silicone implants in the cheekbones
In many women, the cheekbones drop down with age, so cosmetologists often advise inserting implants in this area. This is a surgical operation that is performed under local or general anesthesia. Implants are inserted through the lower eyelid or oral cavity.
Also, no surgeon can guarantee that your face will be a year or two after using implants. Ksenia believes that fillers are a safer choice as they are less dangerous and will dissolve over time.
7. Hypertrophic lip augmentation
Ksyusha is not against sensual and plump lips when they look beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. But, having seen enough patients with hypertrophied lips, she believes that the task of a cosmetologist is to convince patients that sometimes they lose touch with reality and do not adequately perceive their appearance.
8. Mechanical dermabrasion
This procedure removes the top layers of the skin down to the basal. Its biggest drawback is that it can damage the deeper - basal layer of the skin. This can lead to scarring of the skin.
In modern cosmetology, there are much safer procedures that can save the patient from acne scars and marks.
9. Deep chemical peeling
A chemical peel contains a powerful acid called “phenol.” Beauticians cannot predict how it will behave at any given moment. Phenol is able to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and damage the basal layer. As a result, you can get extensive scars.
Ksenia is completely against this procedure, and she is convinced that deep chemical peeling should be carried out with high-precision devices, with which doctors can control the depth of penetration into the skin.
10. Golden thread
Another effective facelift method is golden threads. Most fiber types do not dissolve in skin tissues. Instead, they tighten them considerably and keep them permanently in the position they were placed in. As a result, the face freezes and remains the same for about 10 years.
During this period, it is impossible to change the appearance. If the threads are placed incorrectly, the face may become asymmetrical. In addition, the procedure can cause inflammation and suppuration.
Despite what glossy magazines and unscrupulous doctors advise, not every procedure is effective and beneficial. Before making any decision, make sure you are well informed about the procedure and aware of all its pros and cons.
