If you're a fan of Morgan Freeman, then you've most likely noticed the glove that the actor sometimes wears on his left hand. Mr. Freeman was seen wearing a glove at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards and several other ceremonies, but why is he wearing it?
In 2008, Mr. Freeman was involved in a car accident that injured his left shoulder, elbow and arm. Doctors operated on the actor's left hand for several hours, and the initial prognosis was good - he was supposed to restore the function of the hand in a few years.
However, 10 years later, the actor's left hand is still paralyzed and he must wear a special supportive glove to stimulate circulation in the hand. The star also suffers from fibromyalgia pain affecting his left arm.
Mr. Freeman has a hard time accepting the loss of function in his left hand (he's left-handed, by the way). He had to give up some of his hobbies, but he did not quit acting in films. The actor stated in an interview he gave to Esquire magazine in 2012:
“There is a sense of such changes. I have to move on to other things, to other ideas about myself. I play golf. I am still working. And I can be very happy just by walking the earth.”
The accident broke Morgan Freeman's arm, but it didn't break his spirit. The actor is 80 and doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon. We hope to see many more films from the man who has starred in such iconic films as The Shawshank Redemption, Bruce Almighty, The Dark Knight, and many other great films.
