No matter how you take care of the dishes, over time it becomes not as clean as it was at first. Sometimes it seems that it is no longer possible to clean a frying pan covered with long-term deposits of fat and soot.

It is a pity to throw it away, but there is not enough desire and strength in the hands to clean it off.  How to be? Today we recall the old Soviet way of removing dirt and carbon deposits from dishes. It allows you to return the original shine to pots, pans, baking sheets and gas stove grates.

There are many other ways, some of which we have already described, but this one is perhaps one of the most effective. It will help to cope even with pollution of epic proportions. If you know other proven ways, share in the comments.

How to clean dishes

INGREDIENTS

  • 100 g soda
  • 100 g silicate or stationery glue
  • 100 g mustard powder
  • 5 liters of water
  • cooking utensils

PROCEDURE

  1. Put on your gloves and open the window.
  2. Heat water in a large bowl.
  3. Dilute the required ingredients one by one in water. Soda comes first, followed by glue, and finally mustard powder. Mix the solution thoroughly.
  4. If the pan has a plastic handle, wrap it around so as not to damage it when boiling.
  5. Submerge the pan in boiling water and make sure it is completely covered with water.
  6. Boil it under the lid for 15-20 minutes, if the soot is medium. If the soot is dense and old, it will take from 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  7. Cool the water and take out the pan. Nagar can now be easily cleaned with a knife or a metal sponge.
  8. To clean the pan, you can use any cleaning agent. The method is suitable for cast iron, aluminum and duralumin pans.

There is another version of this recipe. For him, you will need laundry soap grated on a coarse grater.

  4. Add soda and stationery glue, mix thoroughly until the ingredients are completely dissolved.
  5. Send the dirty pan into the solution.

  7. You can clean the pan after boiling it using any cleaning agent. This will be easy to do. Nagar will come off in large shreds.

What to do so that food does not burn

It often happens that food begins to burn in dishes washed from dirt. This is because when cleaning, cast iron loses its non-stick coating. To restore it, the pan must be specially processed. There are several methods on how to do this.

  1. Grease the dish with vegetable oil on all sides. Bake it in the oven at 200 degrees for 30 minutes. Then cool down and repeat the steps again.
  2. With salt at the bottom, place the skillet over medium heat. Heat and stir the contents for about 20-30 minutes. After that, cool the dishes, remove the salt and grease the inner surface with vegetable oil.

Cast iron skillet care tips

Cast iron heats up relatively slowly, but perfectly accumulates and evenly distributes heat. That is why food cooked on cast iron cookware acquires an exquisite taste.

A new, only purchased frying pan must be prepared for use according to certain rules. These simple procedures will help give it durable non-stick properties .

First of all, the surface of the pan must be thoroughly washed with a detergent. The fact is that new cast iron products are treated with wax. This is done to prevent rust and just to preserve the presentation. Rinse the wax thoroughly and let the pan dry completely.

The surface of cast iron, when viewed under a microscope, has a porous structure. So, these pores and holes need to be filled with nothing but fat. The surface will become even and smooth, like ceramic or Teflon.

Traditional vegetable oil is not very suitable for these purposes - it is too liquid. Solid fat is required: margarine, and even better pork fat (lard). You don’t need to spread a thick layer, just imagine that you are preparing a pan for baking a pie.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and place the pan in it. Ignite for an hour or a little more. Newly calcined cast iron is dark brown in color and will become glossy black over time.

The beauty is that the more often and longer you use such a pan, the more pronounced non-stick properties it will acquire.

Care tips for cast iron cookware

  1. Do not immerse hot cast iron in cold water as this will damage the metal and cause the pan to crack.
  2. Washing in the dishwasher and using strong detergents will ruin the soot in the pan , and it will need to be recreated.
  3. Wash the pan with hot water (the hotter the better) to remove excess fat.
  4. Eggs, tomatoes, some sauces, or beans should not be cooked in a pan until a good soot has been created.
  5. In a cast iron skillet, don't cook on high heat, use a high heat to preheat the pan and then turn the heat down.
