Most of us, sooner or later, face the fact that bath towels begin to exude by no means alpine freshness. The unpleasant smell of mustiness, dampness and even mold makes water procedures not so pleasant. Why do towels smell? Mainly, there are two reasons for this. Reason #1 - fabric softener, which reduces the ability of the fibers to absorb moisture and dry quickly. As a result, towels almost always remain damp and damp. Reason #2 - Wrong drying conditions. For example, you can leave them on a wooden door or a tile with traces of mold, and all this flora and fauna safely migrate to a soft fabric. We know it sounds disgusting. But whatever the cause of musty amber, this simple method will help to cope with it.
To restore towels to their former freshness, prepare:
1. 1/4 measuring cup of soda;
2. 1 glass of vinegar
The next time you wash your towels in the washing machine, make some changes to your routine. First, make sure you are using hot water.
Second, use baking soda instead of washing powder. It will serve as both a deodorant and a disinfectant, as it effectively destroys bacteria that provoke an unpleasant odor.
Thirdly, when it's time to rinse, replace your usual fabric softener (if you use it) with vinegar. Vinegar is just as good at neutralizing odors, and it's also a great natural softener for fibers without affecting their ability to absorb moisture.
After the towels are dry, they will not smell of anything: neither damp nor vinegar, but only clean and fresh. And the effect will last at least a few washes.
Soda is a really affordable and effective household helper.
