This is Tao Porchon-Lynch. She is 99 years old and is the oldest yoga instructor in the world. In addition, in 2012 her name was listed in the Guinness Book of Records.
She lives in New York and teaches yoga at a local studio. Tao willingly shares the secrets of how to enjoy life at the age of 99 and keep your body in good shape.
1. Breathe properly
In her 75 years of yoga practice, Tao clearly understood the importance of learning to breathe consciously. She is right. After all, slow, deep breathing helps reduce anxiety, anxiety, improves concentration, helps reduce pain in the body, and even prevents the occurrence of diseases such as diabetes.
2. Be positive
Tao notes that yoga helps to take a different look at everyday things, forget about stress and unnecessary worries. Yoga is the key to optimism. Thus, stress negatively affects not only our mental health, but also the state of the body. For example, blood pressure may increase, there is a risk of stroke, heart attack. It also affects the digestive system, as a result of which stress has a significant impact on our figure.
“Never let negative emotions fill your mind, because negativity can get stuck in our body for a long time,” an elderly yoga instructor confides. Tao repeats with a smile: “Start your day with the words “This is going to be the best day of my life.”
3. Practice yoga every day
Even at 99, Tao finds time for yoga classes. She gets up at 5 am and arrives at her studio at 8:30. Before students start coming to her, she warms up her muscles by doing her favorite asanas. The most interesting thing is that this is just the tip of the iceberg of her active lifestyle. So, last year, Tao, together with 1,000 students, did yoga in the Bahamas, and in February 2016 she traveled around the United States as part of a dance competition (yes, at 99, this woman also dances).
