1. Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

2. The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway
Old Santiago, a Cuban fisherman, is very unlucky. But one day he goes out to sea and a huge marlin falls on his hook. An exhausted man tries to fight to catch the biggest prey of his life. The story has philosophical overtones, so don't take it too literally.
3. "Cat without embellishment", Terry Pratchett
If you want to spend the evening getting a dose of good mood, read the book "Cat without embellishment." This humorous work describes the advantages of the "real" brothers of our smaller ones, that is, outbred and harmful cats. Although there is irony in the book, the author's love for cats is more than enough in it.

4. Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote
The novel tells about the friendship of a girl named Holly with an unnamed narrator. She attends social events to meet successful men. It also tells about the colorful life in New York, which provides its residents with many opportunities and no less disappointments. The glory of the book was strengthened by the film with the magnificent Audrey Hepburn.
5. The Collector, John Fowles
A lonely young man unexpectedly wins a large sum at the races. He quits his job, sends relatives abroad and buys a house in the countryside. He knows that the girl he likes will not love him back. The guy is uneducated and not interested in anything else but butterflies. So he decides to simply "add" the beauty to his collection by kidnapping her.

6. Rita Hayworth, or The Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King
The man was convicted of a double murder he did not commit and thrown into jail. Shawshank, the legendary prison from which it is impossible to escape, became his new home for the rest of his life. But he's not going to put up with it. This is the greatest escape and rescue story worth reading.
7. "Gifts of the Magi", O. Henry
If you love stories with unexpected denouement, read O. Henry's novel "The Gift of the Magi." This sentimental melodrama is about a married couple who, on the eve of the holidays, discover that they do not have enough money to buy gifts for each other. But they found a way out of this difficult situation to please each other.
